GOBS! Mom & Dad
This was Mary's favorite to bake while growing up. It is time consuming, but
oh, so good! Lots of good memories!
Cookies:
3 cups sugar
3/4 cup shortening
3 eggs
1 & 1/2 cup sour milk
1 & 1/2 cup boiled water
6 cups flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
3 teaspoons baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup cocoa
Filling:
5 tablespoons flour
1 cup milk
1 cup powdered sugar
1 cup margarine
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Cookies: Cream together the sugar, shortening and eggs. Add sour milk, and
boiled water. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and
cocoa. Add to the rest of the mixture. Mix well. Drop by heaping tablespoons
on greased cookie sheet. Bake in a 400-degree oven for 5 minutes.
Filling: Cook flour and milk until thick. Cream together the powdered sugar,
margarine, salt and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add flour mixture to sugar
mixture and mix well. Place about 1 heaping tablespoon on 1 gob, and cover
with another gob; sandwich style.
