Nana's Chili Anita & Warren

1 pound ground beef
2 15-ounce cans red kidney beans, undrained
1 14 1/2-ounce can stewed tomatoes, chopped (liquid reserved)
1 medium onion, chopped
1 & 1/2 small green bell peppers, cored and chopped
1 tablespoon chili powder
2 small garlic cloves, minced
Freshly ground pepper

Cook beef in heavy, large saucepan over medium heat until brown, stirring frequently, about 15 minutes.
Pour off drippings. Reduce heat to low.
Add next 6 ingredients. Season with pepper.
Simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Cover and simmer 30 more minutes.
Serve hot.
