Monkey Cake Mary & John

1 & 2/3 cups granulated sugar, divided
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
4 8-ounce packages refrigerator biscuits, quartered (not buttermilk or flaky)
3/4 cup margarine
Raisins and nuts, optional

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a tube pan. Mix cinnamon and 2/3 cup sugar together in a bowl with a lid. Drop biscuit quarters, a few at a time, in the cinnamon mixture and shake well to coat. Melt the margarine and stir in the remaining sugar. Place one-half of the coated biscuits in the pan. Sprinkle with nuts and raisins, if desired. Cover with 1/2 of the butter/sugar mixture. Repeat layers. Bake for 40 minutes. Remove from the oven and invert on a plate. Wait 5 minutes before removing from pan.
